We are former Allianz executives with decades of combined insurance experience. We are theoretical physicists and risk experts leveraging the latest in actuarial science. We are climate scientists, weather modellers, and forestry experts working at the cutting edge of environmental research and sustainable land management practices. And we are legal experts with deep regulatory and transactional expertise.

But most of all, we are a group of people passionate and committed to building an insurance solution that works for the carbon markets.

Coenraad Vrolijk, CEO of CarbonPool

Coenraad Vrolijk

Co-founder & CEO

Coenraad Vrolijk (Co-founder, CEO) has nearly 30 years of experience across insurance, asset management, and consulting, including as a Partner at McKinsey & Company, a Managing Director at BlackRock, and Regional CEO of Allianz Africa for seven years, where he oversaw approximately 20 subsidiaries and served on the Allianz Group Underwriting Committee. He also served on the boards of BIMA, a mobile-delivered health insurer in emerging markets, and the African Reinsurance Corporation. He also serves on the Advisory Board of HCS Capital and chairs the UWC Swiss Association, the alumni network for the United World Colleges, where he began his own secondary education. He holds a PhD in Economics from Brown University, where his doctoral research on derivative securities and monetary policy transmission was later published as an IMF working paper, and a BSc in Economics, Computing and Statistics from the University of Bath. 

As CarbonPool's CEO, Coenraad sets the company's strategic direction and leads its executive team, bringing a career-long focus on underwriting rigor and insurance innovation that began with expanding Allianz's footprint across Africa to close the continent's protection gap. He is also actively engaged in shaping carbon market standards through his participation in the ICVCM's Continuous Improvement Work Program (CIWP).

Nandini Wilcke, COO of CarbonPool

Nandini Wilcke

Co-Founder & COO

Nandini Wilcke (Co-founder, COO) has spent nearly twenty-five years in financial services across the US, Europe, and Africa. She spent thirteen years at Allianz, including as Senior Counsel for US Legal Affairs at Allianz Real Estate, where she advised on the Allianz investors’ direct and joint venture investments into Class-A commercial real estate in the US ; as Special Assistant to the Group CEO of Allianz SE, where her portfolio included strategy, communications, ESG and regulatory affairs; and as General Counsel and Regional Head of M&A for Allianz Africa, where she led acquisitions, dispositions and integrations across twelve countries. She also served on the Board of Directors of Jubilee Allianz General Insurance in Kenya.

She began her career as an attorney in the Property Group at A&O Shearman in New York, advising on multimillion-dollar transactions for clients including Taj Hotels and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

She holds a JD from Columbia Law School, a BA in Political Science from Columbia University, and a Master’s in Modern Indian History, with Distinction, from the University of Oxford.

Claudio Braidotti, CFO of CarbonPool

Claudio Braidotti

CFO

Claudio Braidotti (CFO) started his career at McKinsey & Company in Rome and completed his MBA in Finance at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. In 2013 he joined Allianz, first as a Partner in Allianz Consulting in Munich, before becoming Business Division Country Manager for Italy and serving on the board of Allianz Italia. In 2017 he moved to Casablanca as Regional Head of Strategy and Business Development for Allianz Africa. In 2021, he became CFO of Allianz Maroc, concurrently serving on the boards of Jubilee Allianz Kenya and Jubilee Allianz Mauritius. He joined CarbonPool in Zurich in 2024 as Chief Investment Officer and was appointed CFO in 2026, where he leads the finance function.

Pedro Fonseca, Head of Risk  & Capital Modelling

Pedro Fonseca, PhD

Head of Risk & Capital Modelling

Pedro holds a PhD in theoretical physics from Rutgers University and a degree in physics from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. He has twenty years of experience in quantitative risk and capital modelling, including as Head of Risk Analytics & Reporting at SIX, where he built credit risk models under Basel III and served on the Risk Committee reporting to the Board, and as Head of Business Solutions & Platform Architecture at Systemorph, where he scaled the engineering and analytics team from five to fifty. He has also lectured on quantitative finance at the University of Zurich's Department of Banking and Finance for close to a decade.

At CarbonPool, he was the founding technical lead for the company's capital model, translating Swiss Solvency Test requirements into audit-ready algorithms and defending model robustness through the company's regulatory licensing process. He was promoted to Head of Risk and Capital Modelling in 2026, and he now also leads the architecture connecting CarbonPool's risk models directly to policy pricing.

Oleksandr Kit, Director, Climate & Geospatial Intelligence

Oleksandr Kit, PhD

Director, Climate & Geospatial Intelligence

Oleksandr has 18 years of experience in climate and geospatial analytics, translating Earth Observation and climate data into risk models and decision-support platforms for governments and Fortune 50 companies. He served as a consultant and senior specialist to the World Bank, where he has led development of public risk-stress-testing tools used to validate major infrastructure investments and advised Ministries of Finance on climate-adjusted asset management. Earlier in his career, he directed IT and geo-analytics at MACS Energy & Water, developing energy efficiency and climate finance projects across Europe, Asia, and South America, and  performed critical infrastructure monitoring and transportation network vulnerability assessments in the UK. He did his PhD research on climate risks and vulnerabilities in the urban context of India at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), developing innovative methods for automated feature extraction, multi-temporal change detection, and high-resolution satellite image processing.

At CarbonPool, Oles leads the climate and geospatial intelligence function, directing development of the company's fire, wind, and flood risk models as well as innovative remote sensing-driven monitoring tools and methods. Recently he led CarbonPool's award of a European Space Agency Earth Observation Innovation Grant for CarbonEye, a satellite-based carbon monitoring initiative built in cooperation with GAMMA Remote Sensing.

Kasia Tokarska de los Santos, Director, Climate Risk Products & Applied AI

Kasia Tokarska de los Santos

Director, Climate Risk Products & Applied AI

Kasia holds a PhD in Climate Modelling and Analysis and has twelve years of experience across climate risk modelling, applied research, and AI product development. She completed postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich and at the University of Edinburgh, where she co-authored an assessment of Earth's climate sensitivity named a finalist for Science's Breakthrough of the Year in 2020. She served as a Contributing Author to Working Group I of the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report and as an expert reviewer for the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C. Her research on remaining carbon budgets, published in Nature Climate Change and Nature Geoscience and cited more than 4,000 times, has informed the methodology behind the Paris Agreement's carbon budget calculations. Before joining CarbonPool, she delivered TCFD physical-risk disclosures for enterprise clients at McKinsey & Company and co-developed the Scope 1, 2, and 3 methodology behind Risilience's Net-Zero Planner platform.

Kasia joined CarbonPool as its fifth employee and a founding member of the technical team, building the company's risk-modelling stack to insurance-grade reproducibility standards and evaluating more than 100 carbon-removal projects across nature-based and engineered pathways. She was appointed Director of Climate Risk Products & Applied AI in 2026, and leads the company's climate risk models and has led development of CarbonPool's production AI systems, including a KYC due-diligence agent that has cut technical review turnaround from several days to minutes.

Emmanuel Sanchez, Director, Quantitative Risk Modelling & Analytics

Emmanuel Sanchez

Director, Quantitative Risk Modelling & Analytics

Emmanuel holds two master's degrees from North Carolina State University, in Financial Mathematics and Computer Science. He has more than 20 years of experience in quantitative risk modelling and weather risk, beginning as a software engineer at EMC before moving into quantitative roles at Progress Energy and UBS. He later spent over a decade at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, where he structured and priced parametric weather risk transactions, rising to Senior Deal Modeler, before returning to UBS as a risk modelling and analytics specialist ahead of joining CarbonPool.

At CarbonPool, Emmanuel develops models that forecast carbon sequestration under uncertainty, integrating forest growth with natural-peril risk to estimate future carbon credit delivery. His work supports underwriting, pricing, and portfolio risk management.

Brooke Davies, Director, Strategy & Commercial

Brooke Davies

Director, Strategy & Commercial

A lawyer by training from Harvard Law School, Brooke began her career as Legal Advisor to UN mission teams supporting heads of state and conflict parties on political and legal negotiations across the Middle East, North Africa, and the Sahel. She then practiced as an attorney at the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, advising sovereign and corporate clients on environmental regulatory law, spanning emissions trading scheme design and compliance, emerging international carbon frameworks, and more.

At CarbonPool, Brooke leads strategy and commercial development, helping bring value to CarbonPool clients and engaging with stakeholders on market policies related to risk mitigation.


Ewoud Vandewal, Manager, Strategy & Operations

Ewoud Vandewal

Manager, Strategy & Operations

Ewoud holds a Master in Chemical Engineering, awarded magna cum laude, from the Catholic University of Leuven, and a Master in Management from INSEAD, where he graduated as valedictorian and won the school's Business Model Innovation Competition. He is currently pursuing the CFA charter, having passed Levels I and II. 

He began his career in consulting before joining CarbonPool in 2023 as Founder's Associate. He was promoted to Investment Associate soon after, and over the next two years built the company's carbon investment function from scratch, including a capital deployment strategy exceeding $50 million across a pipeline of more than 100 carbon credit projects. Currently, as Strategy & Operations Manager, he sets operational priorities and drives their execution across the business.

Theri Reichlin, Nature-based  Solutions, Business Development Lead

Theri Reichlin

Business Development Lead, Nature-Based Solutions

Theri holds a master’s in Forest Conservation from the University of Toronto, where she received the Prince of Wales Forest Leadership Award and now serves as Communications Officer for the university's Forestry Alumni Association, and an MBA from Quantic School of Business & Technology, where she founded and served as President of the school's Sustainability Group. In 2022, she was one of six people selected internationally by the FAO and RECOFTC to serve as a Social Reporter at the XV World Forestry Congress in Seoul. Before moving into carbon markets, she spent several years as an arboriculture consultant in the UK, advising public-sector clients on urban forestry projects and leading a national software sales program, and served on the Institute of Chartered Foresters' Wales Region Committee, working to bridge the arboriculture and forestry communities. Her work has been featured in The Forestry Journal. She serves as Zürich Chapter Co-Lead for Women in Carbon and Communications Officer for Women in Sustainable Finance International.

Theri joined CarbonPool on the modelling team, where she analysed the quality of over 60 NbS projects, before moving into business development, where she now leads client outreach, due diligence, and support to the underwriting process for nature-based solutions.

Hans-Joachim is the former Chief Underwriting Officer of Asia Capital Re and Endurance Specialty Insurance, and serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director at several insurance firms.
